What is a ceramic coating?

Ceramic coatings are, simply put, a wax on steroids. Ceramic coatings have many of the same benefits as a wax, although the benefits of a ceramic coating are typically much more enhanced and longer-lasting.
Essentially, a ceramic coating is a thin layer of silicone dioxide, which shortly after applied to a vehicle, hardens and creates a protective "shell" around your paint. The ceramic coating repels and prevents grime from bonding to the paint, while also deeply enhancing the gloss and shine of your vehicle.

The benefits of a ceramic coating
There are plenty of ceramic coating installers who overstate the effectiveness of a ceramic coating. While some of these claims are true, I don't like to oversell its capabilities. So here are the actual benefits of a ceramic coating:
- Creates a durable protective layer for 2 - 10 years, depending on the coating.
- One time application (don't have to apply it every 3 months like a wax).
- Creates a deep level of gloss that's noticeably better than your typical wax or sealant.
- Provides unmatched hydrophobic properties, which keeps your car cleaner for longer and it makes it easier to wash.
- It can be installed on paint, glass, rims, vinyl film, and paint protection film
But before a ceramic coating can be applied to your paint, your vehicle must be properly prepped and corrected with one of our paint correction services. If you apply a ceramic coating without the proper prep work, you can miss out on some of its benefits. A ceramic coating applied by somebody who is not a professional ceramic coating installer can create "smudges" in your paint that you can see at certain angles of light. These are what the industry calls "high spots". You see this when a ceramic coating was not applied properly and it was left to dry for too long before wiping it down.
In most cases, the more durable the coating, the harder it is to install. Weather conditions also play a major factor in the installation process. A ceramic coating typically can not be exposed to water for 48 hours after installation, giving the coating time to "cure". It's as if the coating is solidifying itself into its protective "shell". If a ceramic coating does get exposed to water during the curing process, it can heavily dilute the effectiveness of its gloss and protective ability.
Hot temperatures and direct sunlight are both detrimental to the ceramic coating process. Ideally, a car would undergo the paint correction and ceramic coating application in a somewhat cool, closed environment. Paint hot to the touch is bad to detail on, because the chemicals and cleaning agents you are applying are evaporating before they have time to encapsulate the dirt and grime from your vehicle.
Common Myths about ceramic coatings

While ceramic coatings are long lasting and durable, it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with your vehicle and expect your ceramic coating to protect it.
Like anything, ceramic coatings have limitations and its important to understand them.
Ceramic coatings will not prevent scratches in your paint.
Ceramic coating's do protect against micro-swirls, usually created when washing or drying the car. But if you wash your vehicle with a dirty mitt, you're going to scratch it. If you drag your hand across it dirty, it's going to scratch it.
The coating will not protect your paint from rock chips.
The only real viable option for protecting your paint against rock chips is paint protective film (PPF). No matter how many layers of a wax or ceramic coating you add, they can not protect your paint against the impact of the rocks.
The ceramic coating needs regular maintenance to prolong its durability.
Just like everything, if you don't give your car the proper maintenance, it can impact the integrity of the ceramic coating.

How much does a ceramic coating cost?
There are a lot of factors that go into the price of a ceramic coating. Things such as size of the vehicle, durability of the coating, which areas you want addressed, and the level of paint correction your car needs.

Ceramic coating faq
Is a ceramic coating the highest level of protection for my paint?
Ceramic coatings are a great option because of the shine and protection they add, but if you're looking for the ultimate form of protection, that would have to be paint protection film. PPF will add an 8mil layer of protection that can withstand debris far better than any ceramic coating on the market.
Can I wash my car after a ceramic coating is installed?
Once the coating is applied, the vehicle can not get wet for the first 48 hours after installation. After that, we advise our customers to not wash their vehicle for at least 2 weeks. The first wash after a ceramic coating is free with us, so we can check on and properly maintain the integrity of your ceramic coating.
Can the ceramic coating replace my clear coat?
If your paint is chipping or faded from clear coat failure, you're best option is to get your vehicle repainted, as a ceramic coating will not be able to fix that.
Can I just get the coating applied without the prep work or paint correction?
We do not apply ceramic coatings to vehicles that have not been properly prepped or corrected, as it can hinder the benefits of the coating.
